Muslim From Argentina

Praise be to Allah. My name is Zunilda Eva González, and I am from Argentina. I want to share with you my experience of embracing Islam. Since my childhood, I believed in a great God, a God beyond imagination. I grew up in the countryside, and my mother was Catholic. She encouraged me to study Christian teachings. She had a statue of the Virgin Mary and other images. I watched her and others worship them, but I did not feel that desire. In my heart, I would say: "God is in the heavens." Although I respected my mother’s religion, I did not accept it in my heart. One day, while I was cleaning, a chicken flew and jumped on the statue, knocking the image of the Virgin Mary to the ground and breaking the statue’s head. It was left headless. I do not know why, but I was very happy that the image was broken. My mother was sad. I thought, “One day, we will no longer accept this.” But I was very young and felt a deep desire in my heart to know the truth about our existence. I had many questions. One day, I went to a Catholic church for confession and asked the priest why people lie and why they do not tell the truth. He looked at me and spoke in another language. Then he asked who had told me this. I said, “It makes sense, sir, that images have no power, so why do we worship them?” He replied, “Certainly, but for ordinary people, it is easier to deal with things this way; otherwise, there would be chaos due to their weakness.” Later, I got married and suffered a lot. I separated from my husband and raised my children alone. I visited different churches, but I knew they were not telling me the truth. I fasted and read the Bible a lot, but I did not feel complete satisfaction until two years ago. While browsing Facebook, I found a message about Islam. It caught my attention, so I visited the page. A brother contacted me and said, “Sister, I see you are following us. Are you interested in Islam?” I read the message, but I did not feel it was just an invitation—it felt like a call and a command. I agreed immediately and said I wanted to know more. The brother told me he would introduce me to a sister to begin learning, and I agreed. When I spoke with Sister Aylol, I felt peace, as if I had known her before. When she explained the necessary steps to me, I entered a major stage of growth for the first time and came out feeling pure, as if I were starting my life anew. Since that day, I feel like a different person. I remember the past, but it no longer hurts me. Thank you, sister, for giving me the opportunity to tell you my story and how I embraced Islam. Today, I am happy and at peace. I know that Allah is my Creator and my God, and that I was created to worship Him alone. Amen.
