Olivia from Mexico embraces Islam

I had no religion before. I was baptized in the Catholic Church, but I was never religiously active. I visited Protestant churches several times, studied with Jehovah’s Witnesses, and read the Bible, but I also loved history, so I always knew that we were being misled. I don’t know exactly how I knew, but I was always aware of sectarian groups, powerful groups ruling the world, so I didn’t trust what I was learning. I constantly questioned what I studied. For a while, I leaned more toward learning about Native Americans because they highly respect nature and have a more rational way of worshipping the spirit of the Great Creator, considering themselves created to care for the Earth. One day, a young Moroccan Arab living in France sent me a friend request on Facebook, and we became friends. I was fascinated by his very different culture. He taught me about his food, music, and other things through videos. He wanted to learn Spanish and suggested that we exchange languages. He started teaching me letters and some words. I have a grandson who had just started speaking, and he kept repeating “Alhamdulillah,” though he didn’t pronounce it correctly. When he realized this, he said to me: “It is guiding you to Islam.” He explained that we are all born Muslims, but when we grow up, we forget. He found a Facebook group for me to learn and then said goodbye, explaining that as a Muslim, he hadn’t always done the right thing. He also advised me to study the language and connect with a teacher living in Venezuela, who taught me a lot about it. In the Islamic group I joined, I declared my Islam over the phone, thus embracing Islam. I followed my heart because of the child’s words and considered it a sign. Before I knew it, I could write and tell stories… Through what I learned in lessons with the sisters and teachers, and by watching videos, Islam answered many questions that had remained unanswered for a long time in other religions. It also happened that when I knew nothing at all about the language, when that Moroccan boy wrote Allah’s name on the board, I was able to read it. I recognized letters I had never seen before… That is why I firmly believe that Allah has guided me. I remind you that where I live, there are no Arabs, no Muslims, no mosques, and I don’t even have a printed Qur’an; I have never seen one. Only a digital Qur’an sent to me by the sisters.
